Nowadays, Banks in both the Public and Private sectors are on a recruitment drive for clerical as well as officer’s posts. Thus IBPS exams are conducted for selecting suitable candidates for job vacancies in the various nationalized banks. The SBI recruits personnel through tests conducted by itself. Private sector banks like Karnataka Bank also often recruit staff through their own competitive exams.

Banking Industry and Costal Karnatakabanks

Contribution from Costal Karnataka to the Indian Banking sector is phenomenal.

At present there are four public sector banks and a private sector bank which originate from Mangalore.

No other city in India witnessed this. Hence Costal Karnataka is known as CRADLE OF INDIAN BANKING.

The four public sector banks which originated in Costal Karnataka are

CANARA BANK

CORPORATION BANK

SYNDICATE BANK

VIJAYA BANK

And a private sector bank originatingfrom Mangalore, namely,KARNATAKA BANK.

As mentioned earlier costal Karnataka gave five banks to Indian Banking sector. But in recent years number of people getting placed in Banks from costal Karnataka is decreasing, mainly because we lack shortcut techniques required to solve aptitude and reasoning sections of banking exams.

To Conclude

Banks may not offer fancy financial packages which multinational and few other companies offer.

But the compensation in these banks with the recent wage revision and including perquisites is quite attractive.

And there is an element of job security too. The housing and medical facilities are also considered attractive.

The expansion mode in which public sector banks in India are, is creating vast opportunities for young people to choose banking as their career.
